Platelets modulate bacterial infections. We will identify platelet-activating factors of Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae and identify involved platelet receptors and signalling pathways. We established a repertoire of 52 S. aureus and 80 His6-tagged pneumococcal proteins, purified cell wall components and various platelet function assays, allowing even single cell analysis. We will provide identified bacterial proteins to the CRC and use their (cell/mouse) models for our project.
