After mechanical thrombectomy (MT) in acute stroke, ischaemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury and haemorrhagic transformation (HT) determine further outcome. We will analyse platelet function impairing collateral blood flow and reperfusion during/after transient middle cerebral artery occlusion in mice, and discern platelet functions indispensable for sealing the blood-brain-barrier and preventing HT in the ischaemic brain, complemented by analysis of human platelets locally retrieved during MT.
